Final Video Story

For this story I decided to tackle fast fashion and sustainability in the fashion industry. My inspiration for this video story was to be sort of like a political ad, while I, instead of attacking my competitor, attack fast fashion. This is why I chose to have mysterious music playing in the background. I lowered the volume of the music through audition, exported it as an mp3 and imported in into Premiere Pro. I used the staggering skill we learned in the tutorial to stagger each clip, one after another, in a staircase like position, to get each clip to play after the next, with no stops or black space. This provided a seamless transition. I found the music on creative commons, and made it play the entirety of the video. At the end, when I stop speaking, the music still plays in the background, which I thought would give the viewers a chance to sit with the information they heard. I decided to make my video exactly one minute and thirty seconds, which is a popular length for a political ad. My idea started as a talk on how to be more sustainable, and evolved into an attack on the fast fashion industry. The more I researched the angrier I got. I used the articles “WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE FASHION?” as well as “The future of the fashion industry requires innovative circular systems” to fuel my research. I filmed all of the videos by myself, including the shots of the closet and the sky and trees. The video of nature that I filmed really felt like a beautiful homage to the nature that we are putting at risk when we fund fast fashion. I continued to read statistics over this beautiful video so that the viewer can really think about the repercussions of this industry. Because I got no feedback for this (this assignment is late due to having an incomplete mark in this course) I decided to keep everything the same as the draft!

I wanted the listener to be taken on a journey with my audio. I kept the audio the same as the draft, because I enjoyed the way it sounded so much, and didn’t feel the need to change anything. I chose a free to remix song to play throughout it to keep the listener on their toes. The song starts loud and fades down as I begin talking. I start by explaining what my website is all about. I wanted to add this before the interview portion so that the listener is aware of what the website is, even before viewing it. The website is a combination of trends from 2010 to 2020. I  explain how important it is to follow these trends if you want to know where fashion is going in the future. After this I start with the interview portion. I ask three questions to myself and to my friend. All three of these questions pertain to my website and better help the listener understand what the website is all about. The questions are “How far has fashion come in the last decade?” “What decades have you seen come back during the 2010s?” and “Do you think fashion is constantly changing, or reusing old trends from the past?”. I asked this to myself, someone very knowledgeable in the subject, and my friend, who is unbiased and not very informed of fashion and current trends. The music continues to play at a very low volume in the background. I did this by putting to use the tools I learned in the tutorials, including making two points, and lowering the blue volume bar to the level you are pleased with. I did not make a formal conclusion clip, because I feel the answer to the last question wraps it all up. I end the story with me saying that “fashion always comes back around”. This is me referring to the fact that fashion is often recycled and it is a main theme in both my website as a whole, and the Audio story.

Final Logo

My original inspiration came from an article from 2010 by ELLE. It had to do with the return of animal print in the year 2010. I did not change much from my draft to my final logo. with the dress form being the main focus, and the hanger being used as the head. For the dress I chose tiger print for my animal print. I added the silhouette of two women walking in a fashionable pose. I changed their position from the draft by making it look like they are walking out of the logo. I thought this would add more depth. I really wanted to keep symmetry in my logo, as I did not want anything look strange, or like it did not belong there. For the background I really wanted to use the gradient tool on illustrator. I used a yellow to red linear gradient. I thought this made the whole look cohesive and polished. For the color scheme, I chose warm toned reds, oranges, and yellows. This was to represent the impact the 1970s had on this decade, which I have mentioned previously in this blog. I kept my 70s-esque border, but changed it from a square covering the whole page, to an ellipse not quite covering the whole page. This was so the silhouettes of the two women would appear like they were walking outside of the logo, as I mentioned before. I made the figure stand out against the ground. I wanted it to pop out against the bright background, which is why I used a drop shadow. I really felt this put the focal point on the dress form, which is exactly what I wanted. I used real images of a dress form and a vector image of a hanger as the start of my logo. I image traced the hanger, and made some slight adjustments to it. Then I traced the outline of the dressform with my pen tool. I then freehanded the dress with the pen tool as well. As for the tiger print pattern, I found a vector image of tiger print that I liked, image-traced it, and used the live paint tool to color it orange and black. I enjoy the look of this logo much more than my draft, even if the changes are slight!

Logo Draft

I was very inspired by an article by ELLE, created in 2010. It is all about animal prints impact on the year 2010, and it will be linked below. I chose to stick to my original design, with the dress form being the main focus, and the hanger being used as the head. For the dress I stuck with a tiger print. I added the silhouette of two women walking in a fashionable pose. I really wanted to use symmetry in my logo, as balance was very important to me. I didn’t want anything to look like it was out of place. For the background I really wanted to use the gradient tool on illustrator. I used a yellow to red linear gradient. I thought this made the whole look cohesive and polished. For the color scheme, I chose warm toned reds, oranges, and yellows. This was to represent the impact the 1970s had on this decade, which I have mentioned previously in this blog.I chose I very 70s-esque border to close the logo, with the same color scheme. As for the tiger print pattern, I found a vector image of tiger print that I liked, image traced it, and used the live paint tool to color it orange and black. Overall I love the outcome, and it is exactly how I envisioned it!
